Quranic Recitation as Healing

Raise a child who loves the Quran.

We make du'a for the Quran to be the spring of our hearts. Light & Letters is how that actually happens. We are a Quran education practice for children, where we teach recitation as an embodied practice. Grounded in Islamic tradition, informed by neuroscience.

Three Layers of Support

Allah describes the Quran as healing for what is in the chests.

At Light & Letters, we center this description in our pedagogy. We don't add wellness to Quran education. We recover what was always already there.

Illustrated worksheets, short reinforcement videos, and original letter stories your child engages with between sessions — designed to make the practice stick, not just the class.

Monthly Parent Integration Call

A dedicated 30 to 45 minute conversation each month. We review progress, share what we are noticing, and talk through how you can support the practice at home.

Three Stages

Where is your child right now?

Stage One

Asas

Foundation

For children new to Arabic letters or still building confidence. We build a felt sense of safety and delight with Quranic sounds — using original letter stories and somatic grounding matched to a child's nervous system.

30 min sessions · 2×/week

Stage Two

Tarbiya

Cultivation

For students who can read but are building fluency, tajweed awareness, and working through their first full reading of the Quran. We introduce meaning, maqamat, and a deepening relationship with the words themselves.

45 min sessions · 2×/week

Stage Three

Ihsan

Excellence

For students integrating the Quran as a living daily practice. Deeper tajweed, maqamat work, and identity integration. For motivated students, a memorization support structure built around love, not pressure.

60 min sessions · 2×/week

The Gap

Many families feel their kids are disconnected from the Quran.

01

Recitation without feeling

Children learn to read Arabic letters but never understand what they are saying or why it matters to their body and heart.

02

One-size-fits-all teaching

Traditional approaches rarely meet a child where they actually are — in their stage, their temperament, their family's relationship with Islam.

03

Parents left in the dark

Families want to support Quranic learning at home but have no idea what's being covered, what progress looks like, or how to help.

About Hajar

A practice built from grief, design, and the Quran

I'm Hajar Azzam, a half Hafiz, product designer, and founder of Light & Letters. I spent years in children's media, where I learned what it takes to design something that truly helps a child feel safe and seen.

Then I experienced significant personal loss, and I found that the Quran was not just something to recite, it was something that could regulate the nervous system, soften the heart, and anchor identity. I started Light & Letters because that pedagogy is almost entirely missing from how we teach Quran today.

Families Like Yours

Loved by families like yours

"Our 6-year-old twins have been taking Quran classes twice a week with Ms. Hajar, and we've been so happy with their progress and experience. Ms. Hajar is incredibly positive, patient, and engaging, making each 30-minute session enjoyable and encouraging for young children. She takes the time to get to know each of our kids as an individual, adapting her approach to each child to keep them motivated and comfortable. Most importantly, our kids genuinely look forward to their 30-minute lessons and are excited to keep learning. We are so happy that Ms. Hajar will be leading them through their journey of first time reading the Quran, inshallah."

Mama Nilu

"My son, Haadi, has been learning to read the Quran with Hajar since he was five years old. Even though all of his lessons are virtual, Hajar does an incredible job keeping him engaged throughout the full 30-minute session. Not only is he learning, but he's genuinely enjoying the process. The all-in-one learning platform has also been a great resource for scheduling and accessing additional materials. I'm so grateful we found Hajar to guide Haadi in his Quran-reading journey and, inshaAllah, help nurture a lifelong love for the Quran."
